M8M Meshuggah Signature. M8M is a signature model for metal innovators and style makers Fredrik Thordendal and Mårten Hagström in Meshuggah. A guitar that started a whole new genre of music, and started the trend of 8-string guitars in metal, is now available for the first time for us ordinary mortals to get our hands on. Previously, it has only been available in unattainable LA Custom Shop version, the guitars Mårten and Fredrik themselves played on. After the M8M guitar was released, it is the guitar they use as their main instrument both live and in the studio. The guitar is identical, except that the bridge is made of 2 bridges (because then there was no 8 bridge), with their LA Custom Shop model. M8M is not a standard guitar, it is an extreme instrument built exactly after Meshuggah's own. With its 29.4" inch neck, strings tuned in (from high to low) D#, A#, F#, C#, G#, D#, A# and F, it is an instrument that requires its man to master. But if you do, the rewards are manifold. A better sounding 8 string instrument does not exist, the mensur on the neck gives an incredibly firm and clear low register with stuns and separation. Must be experienced to be fully understood. The neck is a continuous 5-piece maple and bubinga neck with Al wings to the body, a very stable construction to withstand the pressure of the thick (and many) strings. The neck is bound with Dunlop 6100 frets, a high and wide fretboard that makes it easy to get a grip on the strings. The bridge is an Ibanez FX Edge III-8 bridge, a fixed bridge but still has a lockable headstock to keep the guitar in tune no matter how hard you play. The guitar is equipped with a Swedish-made Lundgren M8 humbucker in the bridge position, a pickup made to maintain clarity of tone even with a lot of distortion.
