Perfect for techno musicians, DJs and producers
The Donner Essential B1 is an analog synth bass and sequencer that has both modern design and functions, but sounds like an old-fashioned analog bass synth. It is largely a faithful copy of the legendary TB-303 from Roland - a machine whose sound has characterized several different musical genres since the early 1980s.
Roland TB-303
The TB-303 was originally built to simulate a bass guitar, but unfortunately it was incredibly bad at it, so it was a big flop for Roland. It therefore fell sharply in price, making it interesting to musicians in various subgenres, and it quickly became a fixture in Acid, House and Techno. Since its introduction in 1981, the popular TB-303 from Roland has been copied several times, and the Essential B1 from Donner is one of the most successful interpretations.
Simple structure
The sound engine in the Essential B1 is pretty much an exact copy of the one found in Roland's TB-303. There is a single oscillator where you can control the pitch, and you can switch between saw and square waves. The rest of your sound adjustment options are very recognizable if you're used to analog synths, so you have various options via a low-pass filter, a Saturation module and a Delay module.
This isn't much to work with, of course, but the simple build instead makes the Essential B1 sound absolutely perfect if you want that unmistakable synth bass that was so significant in Acid-house and techno during the happy 80s and 90s .
Modernly equipped
The legendary sound simply cannot be debated - it is exactly as it should be. But apart from that, the Essential B1 offers several modern conveniences. On the back, Main-out is supplemented with MIDI inputs and outputs as well as a USB C port for DAW control. These are led on the front panel by 1/8" jack connections for analog sync output and input, as well as a separate headphone output and aux input.
There's also a relatively basic desktop companion app that allows for editing sequences and firmware updates. All this is very useful for the modern musician.
You can program and save your own sound sequences, and you have 128 preset banks to work with as well as 128 user banks where you can save your own sequences.
