The BKE-11 is made with a hexagonal core wire, which is wound with a nickel-plated steel wire. The strings are then coated with DR's K3 compound, so the strings are made extra resistant to dirt and sweat. The K3 coating, which is applied to all the strings in the set, is ultra-hard and does not dampen vibrations like softer coatings tend to do.
